Who We Are...
organization (NGO) dedicated to the different aspects of the cradle of society - the family unit as our collective origin. The organization is a trans-partisan and trans-sectarian initiative that focuses on the many aspects of family and community life, health and society. As the basic cell of society, the different ills and problems besetting the larger human community will be better managed through appropriate programmes focusing on the family unit. Good and healthy families collectively will engender the emergence of healthy and productive societies.
Action Family Network is thus the name and the purpose of authentic service to protect, to encourage and to confirm community of light, of life, of love in family. Preservation of family loyalties, in education, in religion and in culture by good governance of law and order in humane, just and fair society seeks what is good family in humanity that is world family.
Any charter of human rights is best family-based, family-tested and family-orientated. To do always what is good for the family is sacred duty of all men and women of goodwill to work for, and to enjoin.
Our Mission
concern” by authorized families, in the milling, swirling, flooded, engulfing waters of human desperation, to be havens rescuing, resuscitating and restoring in cities, towns and peopled places. Action Family is one bridge, one island and one step at a time… Action is the dynamic ‘action this day’ that accepts that no one can die in peace who has allowed someone half dead of hunger, thirst and sickness to depart from his doorstep without giving a helping hand. From nutrition interventions to disease control; from prevention of teens’ pregnancy to reduction of abortion-related deaths, and to youth and adult criminality, the Action Family Network (AFN) identifies the family as the rightful point of intervention for any sustainable solution.
Action Family would rather move by example than stir by rhetoric. Action Family Network ultimately believes in grace...
What We Do...
succour to peoples and to restore sanity to the world through programmes and activities that focus on the family both as a nurturing base and as a caring home. We pray and labour to build first among ourselves truly Christian homes with extensions to others to assist them form and live authentic family lives in accord with the true Christian traditions concerning marriage and the family. Some of the aims and objectives of the organization include the following:
To articulate and implement programmes that promote authentic marriage and family values, uphold the rights, dignity and responsibilities of the family.
To work to rectify any and all policies or practices (traditional, contemporary or circumstantial) which may be harmful to the individual dignity, family life or the well being of the society.
To defend and promote the sanctity and inviolability of human life from conception to natural demise.
To provide vocational training centres (VTCs), and to promote job creation projects that enhance personal and domestic prosperity such as Micro-credits services and small enterprise initiatives to alleviate poverty.
The programmes and activities of the Action Family Network (AFN) are structured into three vital areas of family life. These are Family Life and Marriage Issues, Family Health & Nutrition and Family Economy.
1. Family Life & Marriage:
including "True Love Cares (TLC)" Clubs in schools teaching character formation, chaste lifestyle and academic excellence. Presentations are made to community groups, town unions and religious parishes.
Youth Clinic with Adolescent Reproductive Health and HIV/AIDS information and counseling services as well as responsible citizenship traits. Pre-marriage preparation, family life counseling services to couples, as well as family therapy sessions. Marriage is a holy endeavour; people aspiring to it are given the necessary guidance to equip them for the joys and challenges of matrimony. For instance, contraception which separates sex from love, abortion which is killing of babies in the sanctuary of their mothers' wombs and self-love are not good enough to ensure healthy and happy marriages.
Natural Family Planning (NFP) courses are conducted for couples and groups such as church parishes and other organized groups. NFP builds families, strengthens marriage relationships and promotes sound spirituality in the home. Fertility regulation by natural means is culture-sensitive, scientific, safe, cost-effective and does not offend any religious tenet.
Crisis Pregnancy Management: Action Family Network promotes the culture of life through practical charity. For teenaged girls who become pregnant outside of wedlock, our organization provides accommodation, ante-natal care and maternity services free of charge in affiliate hospitals. The babies are thereafter taken by the grand parents or put forward for adoption in rare cases.
2. Family Health & Nutrition
sexually transmitted diseases, and especially HIV/AIDS, AFN pursues advocacy and intervention activities with the family at the centre. Efforts are made to empower families with culture-sensitive preventive information and behaviour change models. For those already infected or affected by the epidemic, FIN activities aim to motivate and equip the family with necessary capabilities to cope with the challenges that usually do arise. In this way, AFN is helping to curtail the intensity of the plight of both people living with HIV/AIDS and their immediate relations within the community. Counseling, advocacy campaigns, care and support including home-based care for people living with HIV/AIDS (PLHAs) and people affected by HIV/AIDS (PABAs). Anti-stigmatization awareness interventions with families, religious groups and community formations.
Nutrition Education/Domestic Food Security: Food care practices, Exclusive Breastfeeding, Immunization outreach for children, Child survival education as well as motherhood welfare information and care services.
Domestic healthcare education, accident prevention and first aid care for both adults and children. The School Health Programme is an extension of the philosophy that adequate nutrition is critical to the physical, mental and intellectual well-being of the child and the family.
3. Family Economic Empowerment
rural poor families and groups to alleviate poverty through self-employment, petty trading activities and other income-generating initiatives. Widowhood support especially for AIDS-widows and marginalized groups. Skills Acquisition for women and youths including vocational training, basic information and communication (ICT) education, dressmaking, apprenticeship programmes. Entrepreneurial training for school drop-outs is also provided.
